Even in the apostolic times (V century A.D.) there was a small church at the place of the monastery. Here according to the legend stopped the Holy family. The monastery took its name after Saint Gerasim, who is in Orthodox church a patron of kindness and mercy. After years of wanderings through the deserts of Egypt, Saint Gerasim founded the monastery on the bank of the Jordan. Thus, this saintly place got its name.
The monastery has an amazing history. Within 1600 years of existance it was destroyed several times and rebuilt. In XX century it was abandoned, and only in 1967 archimandrite Khrisost started the renovation. Today there are 30 monks living in the monastery.
Contemporary monastery consists of several buildings, including the Kalamon Lavra which means "kind mansion". According to the legend here the Holy family hid at the day of the Slaughter of the innocents.
In the monastery there are 4 icons treasured by the whole Christian world:
Our Lady of Odigitria (showing the way) which depicts virgin Mary holding baby Jesus.

Jesus Christ the Pantokrator (Allmighty)
You may write a sacred note to one icon or to all of them.
Women often ask Our Lady of Odigitria about happy motherhood, pregnancy and delivery of a healthy baby; about kids' health and family harmony.
Gerasim of Jordan is known for his help in the cure.
You may pray to John the Baptist for wisdom and finding the answer in the difficult situation.
Icon of Jesus Christ the Pantokrator is known for the help with any requests.
According to the legend, while staying in the desert, Gerasim tamed a lion. The animal helped him around the monastery, even bringing water as a donkey.
After Gerasim's death, the lion died at his grave and was buried together with his master. Today Lion is one of the symbols of the monastery. You may see the statue of Lion in the yard.
There is no fix price for the Note. Everyone donates to the project as much as they could afford.
Part of the donations I leave in the sacred places of power where I travel to. Part of them goes to the charitable foundation by Xeniya Bezuglova "Everything is Possible". 1.Write in the state of love and gratitude
2.There`s no limit to the quantity of your wishes. Write as many as you want to. Both, big dreams and small desires matter.
3.Be grateful! Everyone`s got something to thank for. Write about it in your Note.
4.Focus on something you want to come true, but not something you want to get rid of. Example: "I want to become wealthy and prosperous" instead of "I want to get rid of debts and loans".
5. At the end don't forget to add "In case it would be good for me and people around"
6. Think carefully what you truly wish for. If you want to get married, don't wish to become wife of one particular person. The Universe knows betterm which way to lead you to your dreams. Example: "I want to become a happy wife and beloved mother with a reliable man" instead of "I want to get married to John Johnson".
7. Разрешайте себе мечтать, даже если кажется, что это нереально. Кто сказал??? Знаете, сколько нереальных событий уже случилось — более 27000 !!!
