One of the most important shrines of Cyprus is Kykkos Monastery that was founded at the end of XI century. It is located on top of Troodos` slopes, at 1200 metres above sea level, surrounded by oddly shaped pine trees
According to the legend, Virgin Mary came here and when she was going up, all the trees bowed down in awe. According to the first version, at that place Kykkos monastery was founded.
Here the icon of Our Lady of Mercy (Eleusa) is located.
There are thousands of the stories of healing and other wonders.
The icon is especially known for its help in motherhood. Many desperate women could get pregnant and carry a healthy child, thanks to the prayers in the Kykkos monastery.
